Did a GLP-1 improve your mental health?

Anonymous
My biggest reason for wanting to start a GLP-1 is my mental health (plus obesity). I wondered if anyone has noticed an improvement in their mental health.

Anhedonia is a common side effect. The same mechanism that dulls the "food noise" takes the pleasure/desire out of other aspects of your life.

I experienced the opposite. My sex drive increased, I was less annoyed/irritable, etc.

No mental health change.

I did not feel like life was less pleasurable though.

Maybe slight improvement in the sense I have more self-esteem, a feeling I am more in control of my habits, get positive feedback on how I look which is better than I have in years. The main difference though is I am running a lot, and I find that that specifically impacts my mental health and lifts my mood.

No. In fact Wegovy has caused some depression and sleep problems for me as well as really bad fatigue.

I've stayed on it though -- I've gone from 227 to 153, which got me from obesity to a "normal" bmi, and helped all kinds of other health problems (sleep apnea, knee pain, skin problems, etc). So it has been worth it.

But the side effects (I hadn't mentioned the awful GI stuff) are horrific. So I wouldn't go on one for "mental health," I'd only recommend for people fighting obesity. Which you say you have. So go ahead and take a GLP1 if you want, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to help your mental health. And it might make it worse.

I am grumpier for the first day or two. Am not normally grumpier so it is noticeable.

NP-Had that experience with semaglutide. In retrospect I think the exhaustion was really what led to the other issues. I was too tired to do much which led to my feeling so down, no energy to work out. Also had some minor GI issues. Switched to tirzepatide and I have NO side effects, at all. I feel great in every way.

The tiredness doesn't last forever. Maybe a month at most. i really felt similar to being first trimester pregnant. Semi nauseous and very tired.

I feel so much happier. I have insulin resistance and wegovy has helped my energy be more stable which has made me much more calm. Also, cutting the food noise has been wild. I've never lived a conscious part of my life that I can remember where I didn't obsess about food.

Yes, it really helped with my food obsession. Eliminating food noise has been a profoundly positive change. The only thing I still crave on it is sugar, and a small piece of dark chocolate is all I need now.

I LOVE being thin, not obsessing about food all the time and easily fitting into size 6/8 clothes without worrying about it. I’m in much better shape than I’ve ever been. I know I am much healthier, with normal/low blood pressure and normal/low blood sugar. I sleep much better at night not having eaten junk before I go to bed. But I can’t say my metal health has improved much. I’m still the same person I was. Just smaller.

I was able to quit my blood pressure medication and am weaning off of my anti-depressant (which made be feel blah about everything), so yes.

What side effects on your stomach did you have?
Anonymous
Helped my self esteem, and so has given me confidence because I am not always the heaviest person in the room. I had zero side effects, just lost weight
