Has anyone seen this movie? Honestly, they couldn’t have made Yale, its faculty or students, any less appealing. What a bunch of blowhards.
The music was so discordant I wished I could have turned that soundtrack off so I could hear the dialogue better. |
| I liked Julia Roberts' character's jewelry. I even went so far as to look up who made it and it was pricey! Other than that, I didn't get much out of the movie. |
Ha! Me too! That was about the only thing I liked. - OP |
I also had a hard time hearing the dialogue. Bad movie. Not believable and I hated every character except Chloe Sevigny's character who was not as repulsive as the others. |
| Hollywood never gets academia right. |
I think in this case, they did. And the particular types of students. All were insufferable. |
| What was the deal with Alma's husband? He seemed to very clearly be gay, but they never addressed it. |
| I couldn’t even make it halfway it was so bad. And I love Julia Roberts. |
No, they were not realistic in the least. It was written by someone who knows nothing about academics. I think the movie was an imitation of Woody Allen and dome of the terrible characters that have been in his films like Husband's and Wives. And his characters are not realistic either. |
Pure caricature. |
DP. I completely, 100% disagree. These characters epitomized a very specific type of Ivy League pretentiousness. I attended an Ivy and was so relieved when my own child had no interest in applying. The writer nailed these personalities. |
| La damn is good |
*I meant Landman |
I couldn't get over how awful they made her look. Like, did she run over the director's cat or something? |
| I really enjoyed the movie, as a whole. I have to admit there was a bump to get over at the start when yes, they were kind of imitating Woody Allen characters with all the dry conversations and one-upmanship. But it did reflect an academic world, very closely. And I think the characters were interesting. Unlikeable sure, but interesting. |
