Will Amazon destroy the book?

Anonymous
DD wants a specific special edition book for Christmas and only Amazon has it in stock. Have they gotten better about shipping their books? Or will they just throw it in a box and send it on its way? I have other things I want to order as well, but I’m wondering if I should space out the order so they don’t ship together in a box. Will they take more care of the book if I order it separately?

I would space the order.

You know the box sizes.

By itself it will probably come in a mailer envelope. Most ideal would be ordering with other similarly-sized books.

Order ASAP and ask for a replacement if it is not perfect. That's what I do.

I don't think it's going to make a difference, honestly. 99% of the books I've received from Amazon were undamaged - it was their first product when Bezos started his company, remember. They know how to treat books. But by all means, if you're worried, order separately.

OMG it will be fine. I get books from Amazon every single week and they have never been damaged. Catch up its 2025!!

I thought this was a more philosophical question, ha. Amazon is certainly destroying publishing.

Me too.

I was the first PP.

I have had three books damaged by Amazon's careless packing.

I've also had bad luck ordering cleaning products from them that I couldn't find locally. One came with powder completely spilled in a vinyl bag. Another came with a cracked cap.

The two most recent damaged books have been within the last 10 years. One within 5.

Bad luck... or maybe you created this thread on purpose to dump on Amazon. Sometimes I get the impression that posters do this on purpose. I order from Amazon all the time and very rarely have I received damaged items, books or otherwise.

+1. I had already started self flagellating myself because I needed a book in a hurry and purchased it on Amazon yesterday. I knew I was contributing to the decline of the entire book industry and someone is already calling me out on it. 😝

yes, a predictable and dull outcome from the OP. I bet they didnt' even buy a book, maybe they've never even read a book, huh?

Every week? wow, I didn’t realize book lovers still gave their money to Amazon. Not even switching to Bookshop.org baffles me.

Amazon sucks.

I also buy books from bricks and mortar bookshops.
Saying I use Amazon doesn't mean that's all I use.

NP. +1. I love books. I’m also not going to spend more for a copy of a book than I have to. Now that Amazon has increased prices on new books, I shop in other places again.
