Pomona College to be first LAC to buy research institution

News has come out that Pomona college is buying out Claremont graduate university to avoid merger with ASU. The graduate institution has serious deficit issues and is seeking a partner for future operations. Their rank is about to fall even worse. Probably going to see a massive change in the Claremont colleges with Claremont McKenna leading

They won't be keeping anything to do with grad center, certainly not the deficit issues. They're not absorbing it. They're buying some nice buildings are parking lots so there's no Northeastern Claremont. The idea of having the space to add a 1-yr grad program would appeal to a lot of students.

Not likely that CMC moves past Pomona but this sounds like a repeat of the Middlebury MIIS merger fiasco.
