For those not feeling Emma Thompson in Down Cemetery Road, this is a better vehicle. Indie film generally reminiscent of Fargo in tone. Fun fact: her daughter plays her younger self, and is such a clear mash-up of her parents. Judy Greer plays the bad guy, together with Ozark's Marc Menchaca. Story is quirky and there are plot holes, but enjoyable seeing ET in a more action-y role and overall less predictable than expected. The ending was moving.
Not sure whether I'd have paid $10 to rent, but I had Amazon credits to cover. Otherwise, I might have waited a few weeks until the rental price came down. |
| Just watched the previews - that looks really good! It seems Emma Thompson is trying a new "type" at this stage in her life - unlikely action hero! |
| Lol, I had thought this was about the Dead of Winter movie with Mary Steenburgen and Roddy McDowell. A fantastic film. |
| We watched it too. It was pretty good. Kind of hard to understand motivation you do have to listen to the bad guys talking to each other. |

I have been wanting to watch this since October when it was out on release. I saw it on Amazon for free. I enjoyed it. I thought Emma T was great (and yes, I found her hammy in Down Cemetery Rd).
Its fantastic that basically she's taken on the Liam Neeson role in this movie. I think her daughter is an "ok" actress, but she didn't quite nail the accent and she is far less interesting on screen. It's kind of sad that she is only getting roles where the producers want her mother in the lead role and they have essentially put it in as a proviso in the contacts. |
Same!!! I loved that movie and was excited that someone was bringing it up after so many decades! |
