Have you had one? At what age? Male or Female? Insurance covered or not?

Female. Several. CareFirst covered. I lost height, take PPIs.

Yes, it was covered. CareFirst. I need to do weight exercises.

Yes. Female. I'm 38 and have had 3. Covered by CareFirst and then Cigna when my employer switched.

Male. Several. All covered by insurance - with a copay.

Female. Scan done at age 55 as a baseline and covered by insurance.

F. One at 35 and one at 50. Both covered by ins.

52, female, it was not covered but I have a high deductible. It was about $200 or so.

What was the reason for them declining to cover it? Is it not considered screening if necessary?

For the PP's who had it under age 60, what prompted the test?
Anonymous
My GP told me that it won't be covered until I'm 50 or 55 (family history of osteoporosis but I have no indicators thus far).

Taking PPIs long term for Barrett's

I had one in my early 30s. Covered. Dr looking for baseline as I had Graves Disease treated with RAI and had been on Synthroid since my early 20s. Both contribute to low bone density. Also have family history.

Will be on Synthroid for life since RAI left me with little thyroid function.

For the not covered person ….

They said they had a high deductible. It probably counted toward deductible.

62 and have 2 or 3 due to long term Synthroid and family history. Aetna Open Access and always covered.
