| Maybe you can settle the back and forth on the 2026 acceptances thread on when there was this site (v. list serve). lol. I say late 2004/early 2005. I read this site before i even had my first child. |

The Mailing list was created in 2002. In 2005, the first iteration of the website was set up by Maria. It was primarily just a way to provide information about the mailing list, but it had a couple of forums. Later, we decided to remove "nanny posts" from the mailing list and have them posted in forums on that website instead. The forums started to gain more traffic while the mailing list became increasingly cumbersome. Then, in 2007, I set up a new version of the website using the current software packages. The 2007 design lasted until just a couple of years ago. Therefore, you can choose either 2005 or 2007 as the date that this website when live.

When did the mailing list end? There must have been some overlap because I was on the email list starting in 2007 and didn’t discover the forums until years later. |
In October 2015. I wrote a blog post about it: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/weblog/dcum-list-shutdown/ |
Thanks. I was definitely on the site by then. Probably shifted over around 2010-11ish. |
I’m pretty sure I found a nanny through the website (I don’t know if I was ever on the mailing list) in early 2006. Is that plausible? Or am I misremembering? |
Yes, that is plausible. I don't remember exactly when we start directing nanny posts to the forums, but it was when we had the first iteration of the website which was between 2005 and 2007. |
Thanks! Seems like a lifetime ago…. |
| Thanks for the site! I find it useful and a fun diversion when I need a break!! |
