Infertility Support and Discussion
|
I am going to my first appointment at SG after two failed IUIs at CFA. A few questions:
How many of the tests will I have to repeat before starting IVF? We have several months of Day 3 blood work and sonos, SAs and an HSG from about 10 months ago. How long from the initial consult until you get the green light to start the IVF cycle? I have been waiting so long and hope I can get the ball rolling quickly. |
| Every patient is different, but when I had my consult, they wanted to run their own batch of tests (mainly BW and US) to see where I was. My situation was different as I had an ectopic pregnancy and had to wait two months before going on to IVF. Best of luck to you. |
| You will need to repeat your cd3 testing at SG, so that they have results from their lab. Other tests, like HSG and saline sono, are not likely to be repeated if they have been done recently and there were no problems identified. From there, your timing will depend on the protocol they choose for you. If there is pre-cycle suppression required (lupron or bcps), then you may be able to start in the same month or have to wait until the following month. Regardless, there shouldn't be much of a delay in starting if everything looks good with your testing. |

i had cycle 3 blood work, hsg and sono done within the year elsewhere and my SG doctor did not repeat any prior to IVF.
(for instance cycle 3 bloodwork had been ordered by my PCP and processed by Labcorp). |
| I had to repeat cd3 testing even though I had mine done within 6 months. I also had to repeat the saline sono and HSG, but I had uterine issues that needed evaluation for surgery. I guess repeats on the cd3 testing depend on the doc. |

If it's been 10 years since your last HSG I'm sure they'll want to repeat it.....a lot can change in that timeframe as far as fibroids or tubal blockage.
My experience is that they do a saline sono prior to every IVF cycle. It's such an easy procedure...not a big deal. They like to repeat all bloodwork with their own lab. So, I bet you'll have to do everything over again unless you strongly protest something. But, if you're doing IVF I'd proceed with their tests to ensure they are comfortable with all info and have the best understanding of your situation. |
| I had a different experience than the PP who stated she had a saline sono before every IVF cycle. I had one initially and then post-uterine surgery. I then did 6 IVF cycles before having another saline sono (and I had an ectopic during one of those cycles) and the only reason I had the next one was b/c I asked for it after 2 years of no success. All was ok. I had two subsequent saline sonos done, but that was after m/c. I didn't have to repeat cd3 testing after the initial results. And, my repeat HSG was done at my request (after 2 years and 2 m/cs) to rule out uterine factor issues before possibly moving on to DE. I guess frequecy of testing varies by doctor and individual circumstances. And, I certainly wouldn't wait 10 years between HSGs. A lot can change in a year or two, as was the case after my last HSG. My blocked tube was somehow open and a new fibroid was encroaching in my cavity in a way that regular u/s and previous saline sonos had not picked up. |
| I did not repeat any b/w or labs when I switched to SG. All they did was an AFC. But I bnasically told them I'd only consider switching if they accepted my old labs (from GW and DF). Good luck!!! |
