Clarifying about phones in middle school

I saw on the now-locked thread one poster said “why did he have a phone oh him?” about the boy who called his mom after getting hurt. I’m a teacher at an MCPS middle school. The kids keep their phones in their pocket, but are expected to keep them “off and away all day.” At my school the kids are pretty good about it, I assume they check it in bathroom and in between classes discreetly. They don’t want to have their phones confiscated by security. Anyway, just in case anyone was interested - it’s not at all unusual for a MCPS middle schooler to have their phone on them.
