Two-thirds of undergrad grades at Princeton last year were A-range, faculty report says
https://www.dailyprincetonian.com/article/2025/12/princeton-news-adpol-dean-michael-gordin-continued-grade-inflation-overuse-of-a-plus-faculty-meeting Two-thirds of grades awarded in Princeton undergraduate coursework in the 2024–25 academic year were A-plus, A, or A-, according to a Monday report distributed to faculty, a dramatic increase over the past decade. |

Still test optional unlike the Ivies that went back to required last year. They really pushed the envelope on admissions initiatives hard the past 5 years. They will still be TO next year too.
No plans to go required until fall of 2027. |
Okay so A+ is the new A. Don't get so excited about an A or A-. get an A+ and that is hard to do. |
| NP between Princeton and Yale, which is a better inter-disciplinary school for a chemistry major who also wants to minor in English or Philosophy?? |
| Princeton for Chem |
I think that is a tough one. Chem department might be stronger at Princeton but English and philosophy at Yale will be very strong departments. I don't think you can go wrong either way. |
Which has nothing to do with the topic. |
They’re about equal in English and philosophy, but Princeton chem blows Yale out of the water |
If they want to get A pluses in chem, it sounds like Princeton would be a good choice based on the article in this thread. "While A-range grades are more common in the humanities and social sciences, A-plus grades are more commonly given out in natural sciences and engineering courses, the report said" |
and Yale for Phil. |
| They should return to the early 1960s when all grades were posted outside the classroom by last name. It kept you on your toes. |
Well, yes it does. The other Ivies have shown test scores are predictive of college success and readiness. You need more remedial courses, and inflation when students aren’t prepared. |
Doesn’t mean they aren’t cutthroat. It just means you cut throat to make sure you are getting the A+ |
| Also, would be interesting and relevant to see those numbers broken down by undergraduate division. I would be VERY surprised if the engineering grades were that high. |
Yup, Princeton is still extremely cutthroat for stem. Bunch of know-nothings on this thread. |
