Auto insurance increase

Anonymous
Going from 1500 to 1900 for 2 cars 2 drivers, no tickets, anything. Why? One car not participating in Drivewise (?)
We didn’t even know the other driver was. Or how?
And, frankly, we don't want to.

What to do?
Yes, will seek other companies.

shop around. asking "why" is pointless

The why is easy. Accidents are more expensive because of the cost of repairing and replacing vehicles.

Credit score is one of the maot significant factors in setting auto insurance rates. They look specifically at ratio of credit used :: credit available

Has yours changed in the past six months?

We are excellent drivers. We are being charged for not participating in their insurance driving monitoring program. That is a scam.

Credit score is excellent. Over 850

We are not participating in their driving monitoring program apparently. Will not be either.

No it isn't. Is it legal to charge and extra 400 bucks every six months by not letting them monitor my driving? I am not an alcoholic, no DUIs, no infractions, no tickets, no claims.

It's not a scam. It's compliance. They want to know whether you speed, corner too hard or are otherwise not reckless. They're not going to take your word for it that you're excellent drivers. This is a trust, but verify moment.

it's not the monitoring program even though it gives you some savings. I am not on it and i still shop around. no tickets last 20+ years, never an accident, no claims...etc.

Yes, it is perfectly legal. Haven't you notice your home insurance going up even without claims?

They aren't charging you more. They are offering, in essence, to PAY you 400 bucks to give them access to your personal space and information. Just like Facebook, but you don't charge Facebook.

You’re also paying for others: their accidents, mass fires/floods that take out a ton of vehicles, etc.

I saved over $2k / year switching from allstate to erie. They charged me $3500 to add a new teen driver. No thanks.

You said it, shop around. There is no point in being loyal to a car insurance company. I sit down yearly and do price quotes from all the companies and go with the cheapest for me.
