| For those of you with boys, did your son have a big sudden growth spurt during adolescent years or was it more gradual? I keep reading stories of boys who grew 10 inches in a year and the like, but that seems more like urban legend. Just wondering what your son’s real experience has been. DS is just turning 14 and seems to be a later developer so still waiting/hoping for a spurt. Will have a check up with the pediatrician soon but not really worried about it (I am the mom and was a late developer although DH was on time). When did your son have a spurt and how big was it? Thanks! |

DS #1- massive growth spurt in college, close to done, 6'3"
DS#2- slow and steady all through high school, not done 5'11" |
| Mine grew gradually and was done by 16. Peak years were 12-14 I would say and grew 7 inches in 2 years. The last 2 years was squeaking out another 1.5-2 inches. He was on the earlier side to puberty. |
| My son grew nearly 12 inches from the beginning of 6th grade until the end of 8th. It still only put him around 5ft 2 inches. He topped out at the end of HS around 5ft 5in. |
Your son started 6th grade at 4 foot 2? Damn. |

One of mine grew more gradually (from 12-15 he grew around 9 inches- pretty steadily). He gained weight at the same time and seemed pretty proportional. He is 5’10”.
The other grew around 9 inches in about 18 months (age 14 1/2 or so through 16th birthday). It seemed crazy fast at the time. He was very skinny throughout, later bloomer than most of his friends and didn’t start to fill out until later. He is 6’1”. It really seems to vary. I would say that- based on my sons’ friends- most seem to take a more “gradual” route like my first son. Just increased growth over a couple of years. |

My good friend's son grew 9 inches in a year and had the growing pains and stretch marks to go with that spurt.
My own son is a slow and steady kind of fella but he did have a little spurt of about 4-5" over 18 months or so. He's always been on the taller side and is 6'2" at 15.5. I'm guessing he's close to done. |
| No spurts for my two boys. Just grew steadily at 1.5 to 2.5 inches per year through age 19/20. They are now 6'3" and a bit under 6'5" |

DS 1, slow and steady, 17, 5'11
DS 2, 8 inches the winter he turned 14. Now 15, 6'1 Risser 4 (we know due to scoliosis xrays) Their father and my brothers all grew through 20yo. Dad is 5'11, my brothers are 5'10 and 6'3 |
| 5’4” Freshman year HS -> 6’1” junior in college |
| My son grew 6 inches at age 14. He’s 16 now and 6’. I think he’s done growing but not sure. |
| My DS grew about 6 inches from age 11.5 to 13. Then he slowed down from 13 to 14. |
| I was slow and steady growing up, but my mom was convinced I had some massive growth spurt coming. It was weird, like she expected me to be 6'10". |
| My son grew 2.5-3" every year from little kid to 15. Didn't grow at all 15-16, and then grew another 1.5" 16-17. He was 6'3" at his 17y physical (9m ago). We'll see if he's done now. |
| Mine was 5’5 at 14 and is now 6’2 in college, he grew 6 inches in 2 years (aged 14-16) then continued more slowly until at least 18. |
