This was the opening line to a long and odd email, just sent today to my entire team (32 people), from my manager to thank the unknown number of people that emailed him a "Happy Thanksgiving!"

I was not one of those people and it sure feels like he's being pissy about those that didn't.

Insinuating that your underlings are failing by not offering holiday greetings while..... out on holiday.....is a real, real sh*tty look in case you were wondering.

I think it's just awkward. Don't read into it.

I'm mid-career and recently for the first time ever, I got a boss who wishes the women in the office "Happy Mother's Day" in a group Teams message. I think it's kinda weird. I do not wish him "Happy Father's Day".

It's one of three things IMO:

1) They're lazy and want to reply, but not to many people individually.
2) They're awkward and wanted to say thanks while appending some sort of message to the whole team.
3) They're petty.

Which is most likely only the OP can say based on their knowledge of the person.

I do with mine, but only if I'm already meeting him or emailing with him the Friday before, like "good weekend, oh, and happy father's day!" Wouldn't go out of my way otherwise.

I agree. Since I have autistic relatives, I immediately jumped to 2). It would be so typical of my relatives.

PP. I think it's weird because his role as parent has nothing to do with your work. Other holidays are shared work holidays so saying "Have a nice T-day" is the same as "Have a nice day off".

Manager has no business leading a team if he/she can't understand that they have now, inadvertently, created an environment where reports are to compete for his/her praise on efforts that never should occur.

No one is a lesser employee because they prioritize family time, on a holiday no less, over fluffing a manager's ego.

Also, it's easy to spot the brown nosers. Dont be one.

This👆. No employee should be put in the position to kiss ass , whatever “ day” it is. Just uncomfortable and unnecessary
