Dentist or…? Clogged salivary gland?

DD has what we believe to be a clogged salivary gland on the inside of her lip. It looks just like pictures we’ve seen, and the symptoms are the same. She’s had it for a couple of weeks now and it’s only getting more swollen and is now slightly painful.

Is this something the dentist can handle in-office, or who should I be calling?

ENT. Call your PCP or pediatrician for advice.

Definitely an ENT, I had a benign tumor in a salavitory gland and needed an ent to remove it, my husband had oral cancer and a dentist and oral surgeon started him on the wrong treatment path, he needed an ent to treat as well.

My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon. It was a very quick fix.

I thought I had this but it was a tooth infection, deep in the gum. Two pcps misdiagnosed it.

ENT. Clogged salivary glands can last for 30 days or so, but they shouldn't escalate like you're describing unless there's some other factor (braces, poor tooth alignment, pushing on it while you sleep, etc.)

It's probably not urgent, and the earliest you'll probably be seen is in a couple weeks. If it resolves before then, you can cancel the appointment.

Suck on some lemon drops and other really sour things to promote salivation.

Use alcohol based mouthwash or some vodka mixed equal parts with water and lemon juice for a mouth rinse.
