FSA Feds

Anonymous
I am a federal employee - but my husband is retired military so we have Tricare for healthcare. Family of 2 adults, 2 kids.
We have “minimal” out of pocket expenses -$30 copay for the occasional urgent care visit, occasional cost for prescriptions if we don’t go on base, eyeglasses, etc. I guess I probably only spend $750 out of pocket per year. Would FSA Feds make sense to use?

Do you want to save income taxes on that $750? It would probably be at least a couple hundred dollars in savings. I use it, but I know some people think it's too much trouble.

You can also use it for sunscreen, menstrual products, OTC meds, and a bunch of other things - but it can be fussy to keep track of those expenditures and submit for reimbursement.

I put in enough to cover glasses every year because it’s one big expense. I can’t be bothered to chase down all the little expenses and submit receipts for them.
