PCOS and perimenoapuse

Anonymous
I am an overweight and 43 with confirmed diagnosed of PCOS for last 15 years. Do you think it affects the starts of perimenopause? Does it come early? I am feeling some of the symptoms but wanted to know PCOS effect on other women.

Menopause often comes later for PCOS women, and from what I've read the symptoms might be different. For example, my periods have been normal for the first time once my estrogen started declining, for about a decade, a good thing to finally be freed from estrogen dominance. And few to no hot flashes, at least not yet. Just a couple of minor ones as part of pms (how I know my period is coming). Only now at 55, are my periods becoming irregular again. And I have typical low progesterone symptoms, mainly headaches and sleep issues.

There are specific negatives related to weight/metabolic syndrome.

Op here. My periods have been irregular for a while so I take BC as well. I don't take anything for PCOS but my body aches, mood swings, weight gain etc have gone worse in last 1+ year.

48 pcos posted here- I began hrt about a year and a half ago- I was struggling with sleep and my rage had increased to the point it scared me. I also felt extremely depressed during portions of the second half of my cycle.

Now on hrt, my mood are much more manageable.

My bmi is a 24.9 and I have put on about 5 pounds. I take metformin and will probably need something soon for high cholesterol.

PP here- my mood symptoms began/escalated in my early 40s- my periods became more regular overtime but that may be due to the metformin. My cycles are now starting to be longer but I dont know if that's due to peri or to the hrt.

Op here. My mood swings are getting very bad and ended a beautiful relationship of 3 years due to a lot of fault of mine. Rage and anger comes in and it is uncontrollable that relationship got unhealthy. I am also on metmorfin for years and that is not helping and my periods were very irregular with heavy bleeding but under control now with BC. Does anyone think that BC has to do with my situation? There are a lot of hormone issues going on and I am a little scared.

How is your rage and mood swings under peri and menopause? For me, PCOS was keeping everything whacked.

They are very bad. I continue to either go very emotional or angry on things and none of the medications are helping much.

Low dose prozac was a game changer for me. Highly recommend for keeping moods more even.

I think on average menopause is a few years later for women with Pcos (which of course doesn’t mean it can’t be early or on time for you!) honestly if the wage is causing problems with relationships or quality of life I’d talk to your doctor for about an ssri. Good luck!

I am trying to figure out what could be the issue. I do have thyroid imbalance too and my PCP, Endo have done a bunch of test but couldn't figure out. Rage and then depression has gone much worse recently and sometimes I get very sad.

Prozac caused a lot of weight gain for me so I am on lexapro. Gaining weight did not help me with my moods but Lexapro is ok.

You should get on a GLP if you are overweight. It will keep you from getting cancer and diabetes.
