What does it mean when a grade is put in for an assignment with a future date (early elementary)

Anonymous
Like my kid has a "P" for assignments in December. Does this just mean the date is wrong or does it mean the teacher put in the assignment and maybe accidentally put a grade in but will put in the actual grade after the assignment is done?

Teachers often put in the dates and other things wrong.

It might be an accident or an oversight, but it might also be that the teacher was trying to get ahead on endless and tedious job of entering assignments into the electronic gradebook - they put in the assignment and clicked where the whole class gets a P, with the idea of changing the grades of those few kids who do better or worse after the assignment is completed. It's possible that they forgot to make the assignment unavailable to parents until it was "live".
The electronic gradebook is a nightmare, no wonder teachers sometimes make mistakes. Give them some grace, please.

Thank you - my intention was not to attack the teacher at all and I do not care if the gradebook in parentvue is accurate at every single point in time. I care about the report card. Totally get it is a lot of work for the teachers. I am asking because I am concerned about some issues my daughter has in school and am curious if some of these Ps are real and if they indicate some improvement or if I just need to wait for the report card, which is fine. Also planning on connecting directly with the teacher about the issues directly (we didn't have all the info available at the conference).

Sorry, I should have been more clear who I was annoyed at. 🤭 It was the reply to you, not the original question. As a teacher, with all the teacher-bashing that goes on around here, one gets super-sensitive.
Yes, direct contact with the teacher is always the best thing to do.
