| How do you handle the rest stops when you travel for the holidays? Wait until kids tell you they need to go or just plan to stop every few hours? |
|
This is a weird question. But…we usually plan to stop for meals and gas and then if anyone needs to stop more often, they tell us?
When the kids were in diapers we pushed it a little longer, when they were newly potty trained we made sure to stop every two hours. |
| If ANYONE stops, everyone has the get out of the car and try to go. It's the rule. |
| We usually stop to switch drivers every 2 or so hours. When we stop, everyone uses the bathroom--doesn't matter if you don't think you need to go, you try. That's usually enough times--but the few times there has been an emergency between those stops we stop somewhere as soon as we can. |
| Mine still wears nighttime pull-ups and we have them wear them if we do a long car trip for just in case. We will still stop for them to use the bathroom but no big deal if we can’t stop immediately. |
| If we're driving four hours (which is the farthest we'll drive), we stop once. Any trip longer than hour hours and we fly. |
| My DH loves to stop for a pee break, so we have lots of opportunities. |
Good lord, how many hours are you talking? It's not a marathon to see how many hours/miles you can get between stops. |
THIS!!! I will end run any drive I possibly can. My limit is usually 6 hours. The kids know to limit liquids and to give advance notice of the need for a bathroom, as some of our routes are more rural and don't have lovely bathrooms every exit. If it's a drive that I know, like we're going to NH and I know that it takes 10 hours and Connecticut is terrible on a good day, I will usually plan a stop at the top of the NJ Turnpike. |
Are you sightseeing?? The goal is to get there! I'm sure not stopping more than every few hours! And by few, I mean 3 at the absolute least. |
| I need to stop every couple hours, so we stop on my schedule. If anyone needs something more often than that, they can ask and we'll stop. |
How fun.

| I plan stops that avoid rest stops. My kids do better with somewhere they can run— literally 15 minutes on a playground (CFA works if the weather is awful) a bathroom, maybe a snack. 3-4 hours apart. |
| If traffic is bad and it’s unclear when we might have another opportunity, I’ll do a preemptive stop even if no one really has to go. Being stuck between exits on 95 when you really need to odd us the worst. |
| We piss in cups. Thus question comes up always during the holidays. Do you idiots not travel |
