| School appears in various rankings on this forum. There's ED0(??). Looking for students' experiences from the last 3 years or so. The good, the bad and ugly. Why NOT Chicago? |
| $6.2 billion in debt. Programs cut, professors laid off, increased panic by the marketers to drive up yield numbers … I would avoid. https://provost.uchicago.edu/announcements/information-about-universitys-finances |

A lot of surprised ED0 rejections. If you need aid, I’d be wary.
Ask your school for data. |

Awesome university
Awesome academics Awesome campus in an awesome cities. I tell my top 5 % - who are not looking to be engineers to go there if they get in . ( preferred over near competitors like Duke /Upenn/ Columbia / Cornel and surely over laggards like Brown/Dartmouth. |
| City* |
Preferred by whom? UPenn does much better in cross admit. Duke is essentially tied. |
The surprised ED0 rejections are independent of financial aid needed. My kid got in ED0 and so did many of their friends who attended the weeklong enrichment program (some of them needed aid). But there are many others (mostly kids that attended the less selective 3 week summer programs) who were rejected. |
| Chicago has been a really wonderful fit for our child. Finally with peers who can think big-picture. The core curriculum is a gem. |
| The education is top notch and work ethic instilled translates well to employment. |
Employment in everything but engineering, correct? |
|
It's test optional
On a quarter system |
Apart from molecular engineering, UChicago doesn’t have engineering at all. |
And there's IL Institute of Technology about 5 miles north of U Chicago for those looking for engineering in Chicago and not at Urbana-Champaign. -DP |
It's an econ school, why does it need engineering? |
UChicago is great for humanities, social sciences, math, physics. Fully agree that there is no need for engineering. |
