Window or more than one window in bathrooms

Why don't most homes have a window in the bathroom?

They do.

Sometimes it's because it's a good layout for ensuites to have the bathroom in the interior. Which makes sense to me, a window for the bathroom is one of the first things I would sacrifice. Closets, bathrooms and laundry towards the center.

Curious, why?

When we built out our house adding 3 story addition to the back, the first floor and second floor bathrooms lost their windows. We added a new bathroom that had a window. But those 2 original bathroom windows now faced new construction.

I prefer a window(s) in the bathroom. It is WAY better for ventilation.

Seven here. All with windows.

We have windows, but also put in an upgrade fan. The window is nice for natural light and just gives the bathroom a better feeling.

Not a good solution in this area. Too many mosquitos and gnats in the summer, too cold in the winter. Get a better exhaust fan.

We have powder rooms (no shower) with no window on both our main floor and in our finished basement. Our kids' bathroom upstairs also has no window. Our master bath has 3 windows and our ensuite bath in the basement has a high window. New construction, 2019. The windowless bathrooms do have exhaust fans that work (e.g., they exhaust into the space between the ceiling and the floor of the next level above), so at least they don't just recirculate.

That's a problem. Ours all exhaust to the outside of the house. It sounds like the builder did not bother to hook up an exhaust pipe to the outside.

It’s called the sun and screens. Also who has gnats?

I grew up with a bathroom without a window and two bathrooms with windows. Had great exhaust fans in all- bathrooms with window much better
