Appealing ticket for expired registration

Anonymous
Our car got ticketed over the weekend for a registration that lapsed a week ago. Unlike in the past, DC did not send us a reminder 60 days in advance, despite saying it does so on its website. Did anyone else not get a reminder recently? We got one for out other car back in the spring. Wondering if we could try to appeal but it would help to know if there is a larger issue going on.

You drive your car. Don’t you look at your registration sticker in front of your face in the window in DC. Or on your tag in other states?

I mean when it’s 2 months out you take a little bit of proactive steps and go on the dmv or mva website and renew.

That being said. Normal if you show up to court with a non moving violation fixed they tend to dismiss. But it’s a ticket with no points or anything right? So renew your sticker and pay the man.

No it’s on you to know when your registration is up. Just pay the ticket.

Sorry, not with you on this. I consider a reminder to be a courtesy. You need to be aware of when your car needs to be registered.

You're an adult this is adulting. Pay the ticket you owe.

They do not have to remind YOU to register YOUR own car. Take responsibility for yourself in all aspects of your life.

Really, OP?
Take some personal responsibility already.

Waste of time. I got one for days late but in the SAME MONTH! I genuinely assumed it was good through the end of the birthday month. Nope. Cop was driving around running plates with their invasive auto scanner thing and pulled me over. I was stunned -- and also irritated that this is what they do all day. Nailing taxpayers for this petty bullshit while real crime is ignored.

This. OP you should know and be on top of this. It's very basic car ownership.

If they didn't do this, taxes on everyone would go up. I prefer that they undertake modest efforts to levy a Stupid Tax, such as the one you and OP got hit with, and subsidize the rest of us.

Thank you for your contributions - keep it up.

Just pay op. What’s your reason for appealing?

They are usually dismissed for a "dismissal fee" of like $10 if you take your new registratino paperwork up there. They got to at least get a little money out of the public.
