Tips for holiday time in NYC with a 4yo

Spending a weekend in NYC around the holidays with our 4yo. What are must-do activities? Any tips?

Don’t go

Is your child a good walker? That’s going to be important for a fun and successful trip.

+1. Seriously. That was my thought, too, when I read the post.

Anyone with tips for what we must do if we are going?

The Bluey Play Place might be fun. My experience is you want to go right at opening as that's when it's least crowded.

Obviously there are the museums, Natural History might be a good fit.

There's the Bubble Show.

My kid liked the Intrepid museum but he really liked planes at that age.

I would spend time away from midtown. One idea is the transit museum in Brooklyn. You can get on and off real subway trains.

Try to work out routes so you never go through/near Times Square. It's a crush of bodies. Unless you can carry your child it will be stressful.

Our favorite thing around the holidays is the train show at the Bronx botanical gardens. Get tickets for first time of the day.

Our kids loved the Rockettes, even at that age.

Its VERY cold so if you have room bring a snow suit so they can last in the elements longer.

There are going to be HUGE lines to get into FAO Schwartz and Lego Store, but those are fun for littles.

Stay away from Times Square. A nightmare with a kid that age!

The things that are NYC specific (rockafeller tree, ice skating, Macys, Rockettes, Times Square, etc) are going to be insanely crowded (or expensive) and miserable. The things that are NOT NYC specific will still be way more crowded than they would be around home (like a random museum or riding public transport). Truly my only suggestion is to not go for another 5-6 years

Maybe a horse ride in Central Park?

Or just go to a toy store or the Lego store close to home with no lines, and a 4 year old is not going to know the difference.

The Jellycat Cafe experience is cute at FAO Schwarz and you get to slip the line but you have to book 30-60 days in advance.

Ok Scrooge. You have no idea why they will be in NYC. They will be there even to your discontent, so your comment is very unhelpful.
