| Why would or wouldn’t a student go to The Heights? |
| It went hard MAGA in 2016. We left the associated girls’ school as a result. |
|
We sent our boys pre-MAGA because 3-5 there is a ton of recess time before/during/after school. Outdoor education and small class size. Gym every day.
6-8 Agsin string academics but tons of breaks, outdoor time, sports. We left after 8th because we felt too much all boys isn’t good for development. |
| Can anyone share on their academics? |
| Very strong academics. Lots of opportunities for acceleration. I know a kid doing calculus in 9th grade because the school let him do extra classes over the summers. |
To be clear if you want your kids to accelerate like this and they are not a genius the Heights will not let them. If you kid is a genius sure but if they are just above average they are NOT taking calculus accelerated like this no matter how much you want it. |
But most schools don’t have an option to do this regardless of how bright the kid is, and for people who do have extremely smart kids it’s great to be able to let them soar! |
While, that is true. You thinking your kid is extremely smart and the Heights thinking your kid is extremely smart are two vastly different things. |
| To machismo/patriarchal/MAGA for our centrist family. Academics no where near as good as publics (W schools), or top privates. |
False, the Heights teaches a classical education so students learn to think critically and to write beautifully. You no longer get that in public - there it’s all rote memorization and teach to the test. The Heights does allow acceleration in certain instances, which publics can’t handle - hence it’s a good place for a gifted kid. The teaches discourage mindless computer and phone use. The lower school the students memorize and recite poems in the old English school tradition. The school tries to build character; publics don’t. The students go to great colleges - they’ve got one student now at Oxford and another heading for Harvard Law. |
| If you really want a classical education minus MAGA, look at Saint Anselms Abbey school. Extremely strong academics. |
| Isn't Gtown Prep the best? |
So, zero kids heading to ivies undergrad is what you’re bragging about? |
Uh, every single Ivy is represented here as a Heights outcome institution. You could have googled this before posting. https://heights.edu/admissions/after-the-heights-colleges-and-universities/ |
Yes, at one point in the school's history, a student has gone on to attend an Ivy. But it's rare, as is admission to many of the top colleges, coming from the Heights. Solid, conservative Catholic education. But an academic powerhouse it is not. |
