Xavier looks to turn the tide amid an enrollment slide
September 25, 2025 WVXU

The number of students at Xavier University is falling. This semester, the university posted its lowest total enrollment in years. Recently released data shows that 673 freshmen enrolled at Xavier this fall, leaving the school with a total enrollment of less than 5,000 students in all of its undergraduate and graduate programs.

In 2011, the university's total enrollment was 6,945. Since then, enrollment has dropped by nearly 2,000 students.

That Musk guy says most of the jobs will be gone in 10-20 years due to AI and robotics and that humans will be veggie farmers. What do you want to major in now and where do you want to study?

Especially those in the midwest and NE.

No big news. We know what a college a week
has been closing since covid, LACs, in
particular. Google it or Hechinger.

Xavier enrolled 1,200 freshman just a couple of years ago. It's been declining every year. This fall they expected more than 800 freshman to enroll, instead they got 680.

They are planning to open a DO school, don't know if that will help long term but they have to try something. I saw somewhere that tuition is $52,000 a year while Univ of Cincinnati is something like $14,000 a year.

Xavier gave my DC generous merit so the final price is less than the public’s for out of state applicants.

Which is exactly why it is struggling to stay afloat. These are desperate times for SLACs. “generous merit” could mean no merit in two years’ time if the school closes. My LAC is playing the same games to fill a class
