| Dc is interested in San Jose State University for a very specific major. We are from the DMV and have never been to California. Anyone familiar with the school who can offer some insight? Is it mostly a commuter school? How would an east coast student fit in? What is the campus like? We plan to visit over spring break if dc gets in. TIA |

| They have amazing job placement rates. |

See if there is a virtual tour.
Use google maps street view, drag the little guy to "walk" all over campus. You might look at Santa Clara University as well. |
It has an 85% acceptance rate. |
| Regarding on-campus living, if you pull up a college's Common Data Set and look at section F, you can see the percent living in campus housing. SJSU (https://www.sjsu.edu/irsa/docs/cds/20250411_CDS_2024-2025%20FINAL.pdf) has 48.8% of freshmen and 16.6% of all undergrads living on campus. You can compare this with other schools your kid is thinking about to get a sense as to how the experience might be different. For example, to pick a school at random, JMU has 99% of freshmen living on campus, with 10% of undergrads living on campus, which will give a different social feel. |
Should have said, if dc gets in, its financial feasible/is a realistic possibility (compared to other schools dc is applying to). |
This is concerning considering it has such a diverse student body, with only 16% of students identifying as Caucasian. |
Also, the major that dc is applying to has something like a 30% acceptance rate. |
CSUs give preference to students living in their service area, so that's a misleading number for OOS. |
It did until tech job market crashed. |
this |
eh. We're in MCPS, and we've had issues with swastikas draw on desks. I went to SJSU eons ago, so my info may be dated. That said, it is mostly a commuter school. Lots of first gens. It's part of the CSU system in CA, which is a tier below the UC schools, but SJSU has a decent reputation in silicon valley because it churns out grads who end up in a lot of the tech companies there. Again, my info may be dated since I went given how there are so many layoffs happening in SV. It's near downtown SJ, but SJ is not terribly exciting, but it's fairly safe. What's the major? |
It may be a hoax (a minority may have done this), or I guess if a white student did it they feel threatened by the fact that there SJSU and SV in general is super diverse. |
its pretty decent |
