This annual list recognizes researchers whose contributions have demonstrated broad and significant influence in their fields. Analysts from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate recognized 6,868 individuals with 7,131 awards* from more than 1,300 institutions in 60 countries and regions. The rigorous evaluation and selection process draws on data from the Web of Science Core Collection, and uses quantitative metrics and qualitative analysis to identify individuals whose work has had a genuine, global influence on their fields. The list offers valuable insights into the global landscape of top research talent and identifies trends across countries, regions and institutions. The United States is the world leader, while Mainland China and the United Kingdom maintain their respective second and third positions on the list. List of United States institutions 1. | No LACs on the list, unsurprisingly. Why would anyone want to go to such mediocre institutions? |
| Where's UVA, Virginia Tech? |
| What’s the purpose of this list? |
| I assume the numbers behind each list are the number of researchers on the list from that school? If so, it is wrong. I looked at UW Madison, my alma mater because I was surprised they weren't on the list. And they have 19 researchers on the list, but aren't included in the rankings. Unless this is counting something different. But I did not find a list of Universities ranked like your list. |
| This could hardly be less relevant to undergrad experience. |
LACs are by definition not research universities. But people send their kids there because they often have high quality teaching. |

I'm guessing Pitt is on there for its medical research. It is surprising that Virginia Tech isn't on it.
The University of California is touting it. What a contrast with the UC San Die GG o undergraduate news. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/uc-no-1-worldwide-ranking-highly-cited-researchers |
The type of student who is failing basic math exams is not the type of person to work with the professors doing high-powered research. |
IKR.. list is useless. /s |

Not surprising that UMD is on the list. It's an R1 and a heavy hitter in CS research.

Clearly none of the academics at LACs are any good; why would you trust them to teach your children well? |
Well first, we understand that a LAC will have fewer professors than a large university. And second, we trust undergraduate-focused professors to focus more on teaching than a research professor does. |
They aren’t research institutions, you ass. But have amazing undergrad teaching. What does it matter if graduate school is good? My DD goes to UCLA. I went to s LAC and got a richer, more sophisticated education. |
