How best to get high school soccer team carded to play in a tournament?

Anonymous
We are exploring having our girls (DMV) high school soccer team play in a pre-season local tournament. But - I know they need to be “carded.” What is best way to do this? One suggestion online was card them through a USYSA rec program …would that work? Level of team is travel (probably ECNL-RL caliber). Thanks for any ideas/suggestions!

Call the tournament organizer and ask.

Admittedly I know nothing about this exact scenario, but the reason you need to be carded is mostly for insurance/liability purposes (secondarily proper age). I can't see how you can just drop an entire HS team into a random tournament without a lot of work. I guess it's up to you how much you want to pursue this.

How would you manage ages? U19??

Reach out to Kyle Wilson (IG Kylecwilsonofficial). He has created a new program for kids to control their player cards individually versus any one club and he may be able to provide a solution for you. Either way, you will get educated on the process.

Yes - we would want to play U19 division.

Do you know if any of the players are already participating in the tournament with their travel teams? You can run into issues there if they show up on 2 different rosters. Depending on the level of the tournament, they'll accept you if can cover the registration fee.

I don't understand this scenario. There is a full HS team in the DMV that is at the ECNL-RL level and none of the girls on the team are carded travel players?

what does this have to do with anything? The travel/carded players don't want to play with their (various different) travel teams - they want to play with their high school team in a pre-season tournament. Ideally within a couple hours drive of DMV.

isn't it a matter of asking the card to each of the players club? as they supposedly have one already.

You contact your team manager who then decides whether you need an actual card release or not for the tournament and go from there.

They don’t know how carding and tournaments work. That is all. Many of the clubs won’t release cards either which if why they need to learn the system.

This is just a start...

OP, when you register for the tournament, you provide the roster/ player cards at that time of registration.

For all the Girls that are already playing Travel, you will have to reach out to their teams to get their Player Cards. (Futsal Clubs do this in the Winter Time).

For Girls who are not in Travel, you need to create Rec Passes for them.

You will have to create a Got Sport Account to enter in all the Team Admin Data in order to get Rec player cards.

For VYSA, you might want to contact the State Registrar, info here:
https://www.vysa.com/resources/registration/

If you are in Virginia, VYSA has a Rec roster template:

Give the registrars a call and they could likely walk you through the process.

The card isn't just a "card". It's for insurance purposes. What club would allow a player to participate in something outside of their activities?

I think you have 2 options, have the players borrow their cards from the club. You still have issues with players that don't play travel.

The other option is real simple and accomplishes the same outcome. Sign you HS team up for indoor soccer league and play a winter session.
