Minimum raise amount to leave?

Anonymous
If you were overall happy with your role, but felt you could be making more elsewhere, what would be your minimum increase to leave? Assuming it's a role and company that interests you, but you don't have a burning need to leave your current role. $20k? $30k? $50k? More?

I am a civil servant and believe in what I do. I took a 50% pay cut to take my job. I could easily double my salary now (175k) if I went back to the private sector. I doubt any combination of salary, benefits, and perks would convince me to switch sides.

$35k-$50k. And the title better be good.

Depends on the culture and schedule. Right now I work from home and have a lot of autonomy on when I do my work as long as it gets done. It would take a LOT of money to get me back in an office 9-5.

lol, I was running the numbers on this earlier since someone keeps asking me to come work for them. I told them I need at least $30K more, fully remote (which has been okayed) and a good title. Wasn’t really looking so I’ll see what they come back with.

40k plus keeping my 20% bonus, and title upgrade

I’m happy and making a little over $200K. I got a job offer at $230K but decided my minimum to switch was $250K so turned them down.

Math is not your friend. That is 30k more the rest of your life and each raise and 401k match is also bigger.

I switched three years ago a 40k raise

Now I have 120k extra pay

Also an extra $7,500 in 401k off matching in the 40k

I got three 4 percent raises off that extra 40k so my salary increase an extra $4,500

It is a multiplier effect.

So even 20k more at 35 is a massive amount of cash if you retire at 65

Same. I dont make a lot but would need significant amount more to cover afterschool coverage, car wear and tear, real clothes, gas, extending daycare hours, not being able to make dinner during lunch break, being able to let our elderly dog out regularly, etc. At least 40k and ability to shift hours to (4)10 or delayed start 930.
