I was in a poorer city than usual last week, and I saw they had a a LIDL, so I tried it I bought a box of spring mix there and it was rotten. Is LIDL the even lower end Aldi? |
| Lidl is supposed to be better. I don't know what's going on but Walmart and Aldi now smell like feed stores. Both were decent around pandemic time and quality has gone down significantly. |

I once got berries from Whole Foods that went bad within two days. Packaged lettuce is a gamble wherever you go. You are basing your opinion on a grocery chain you'd never tried before on a single perishable item.
Lidl is low-frills for sure, but in my experience on par with Aldi. Both have international and specialty items, cheap private label basics, and real deals on what can be actually good stuff in the crazy miscellaneous aisles of toys, home goods, school supplies, etc. I reliably find much better quality produce at better prices at Lidl than at Giant. I think it's like any other chain (Giant, Safeway) where there are nicer locations and not as nice locations, and finding bad produce can happen anywhere. |
Agree wholeheartedly. I do 80% of my shopping at Whole Foods and another 15% at Mom's and have occasionally had the box of spinach turn out to be manky and a box of berries go moldy within days. It happens everywhere. I do go to Lidls once in a while and they have good deals for many things. I do find it a step up from Aldis, which is much more a hit or miss. |
WTF? A poorer city than usual? Are you a troll or just an idiot? There's a Lidl (it's not an acronym by the way) in McLean. Can you afford to live here? |

I was surprised that the Lidl in SE DC, near some of the poorer areas of the city, actually has excellent produce, whereas the one in Columbia Heights is more varied.
If there's a Lidl near you, I'd suggest checking it out and seeing what you think. It's not like buying a house or car, where you're stuck with a big purchase. If you don't like a grocery store, you just don't shop there again. |

its past season for fresh berries so no matter where they come from, they are likely to mold quickly (especially raspberries).
I have had a great experience with produce from the DC Lidl. I won’t go into an Aldi -although similar to Lidl, I hate pretty much ever difference. |
You bought ONE box of produce at a grocery store and made a whole conclusion about an entire chain based on that? Real Mensa candidate here. |
You sound like you have brain damage. Could that be the problem? |
They’re both. |
| I've been to the one in Columbia Heights and I wasn't impressed. I've heard that the one next to Wegman's on Wisconsin is really great. I haven't been there. |
+1, but probably also has no clue what Mensa is… |
lol, right?! I live in a “poorer” city than DC and have never had an issue with my fresh veggies. In fact, it’s far superior to the one I used to shop in in Loudoun. |
| I love Lidl. Most things are fine. I’ve gotten strawberries from Whole Foods that get furry the next day. |
It is really great - we have started doing most of our shopping for basics there because it’s so much cheaper. You can’t get everything, which is annoying, but for the day to day stuff it’s great. |
