Legacy Admission for Visi

Anonymous
What are the chances that a legacy kid will not be admitted into Visi? My DD has high B’s at a K-8 Catholic school, she’s an athlete, and her practice HSPT scores have been in the mid 80’s. Just trying to understand what to expect.

Sounds like she’ll get in, but might struggle once there. You might consider other schools as a better fit.

I think she's fine. I've heard of legacies with HSPT's in the 40's/50's that got in.

Disagree heavily with this. If she's got high B's and 80's in HSPT she will do fine. Maybe not the highest level track but it's not like she won't be able to do the work.

Talk to your HOS. They know now if your child will be admitted (exaggerating a tiny bit ).

She’ll likely get in. Is the legacy status from a parent or another relative?

Legacy is big at Visi. Her grades and scores are well above average for legacies who are admitted.

She'll get in. Those are fine scores and well above most legacies.

Is the legacy the mother? Or an aunt or some other relative?
If mom, I think she’s more than fine.

Curious about sibling admission?

I went to NCS and interviewed at Visi (albeit years ago). I remember the head of school telling me, "We are not as rigorous as NCS, and we don't aim to be." HOS explained that they basically had to take a certain number of girls from each parish and that they also heavily weighted legacy, so there were girls of a range of ability there.

Don't know if things have changed.

I should clarify - I was interviewing for a position to work at Visi, not as a student.

This is true at almost all of the Catholic high schools.

That’s because the see themselves as serving a community with a range of students and not a narrow slice the population that is highly academically focused.

If you don’t understand this, Catholic school admissions won’t make any sense to you.
