SSSAS science/math in high school

We’re looking at SSSAS and curious to hear from current parents about STEM offerings. It sounds like they have a robotics team that has done well in recent years and some kids who’ve done independent study for high level of math? And they also offer a lot of Science/computer science electives, but unclear if they are actually offered or just listed in the course catalog.

Our son wants to be an engineer so he’ll need challenging math and science classes (and hopefully a peer group/cohort with similar interests).

Also, the robotics/maker space facility was okay but didn’t seem to get as much real estate as say art programs

DC is in US at SSSAS and is a physics/chem kid who has loved it, but isn’t interested in robotics and engineering. We (parents and kid) love the school and I think the math and science offerings, core and elective, are excellent, but I will say that the amazing husband and wife team who ran the robotics program retired after last year. I haven’t heard anything about the new robotics lead, and they are still looking for an assistant coach. So if that’s really important to your son, definitely do some digging. Maybe ask if there’s a family of a current student on the robotics team that you could speak with to get an inside scoop.

PP again: the school does offer a STEM certificate (also world language or arts certificates), and that is a nice add-on for STEM kids. But again, not sure about the current status of robotics.
