Stupid question about decision deadlines

Anonymous
Forgive this really stupid question, but assuming NOT rolling admission, colleges won't release their admission decisions until the day of their published notification deadlines? Or could they possibly come in batches here and there?

Some do send in waves, others announce a slightly earlier notification date than posted. However, you should forget that those are possibilities and just be pleasantly surprised if you get results early. Don’t make a long slog worse by hoping it will be shorter.

Generally they follow the deadlines if given, especially the top30 schools. However many of the top30s don't give exact dates. that said they never admit in waves.

T30s don’t admit in waves … unless you count the waitlist.

Most don't. One of my DC's schools (Oberlin) released a round of decisions much earlier than expected last year, which was a pleasant surprise. But it almost never happens.

If ED, a couple of days before the notification date is common.

Depends on the school. Usually they are all released on the same day. That day may or may not be known in advance. They may publish something like mid Dec, or Dec 15th, as a date "by" (not "on") which decisions will be released and then release prior to that date. Sometimes they post on social media or email a few days before to announce the decision release date.

If you are watching dates closely, look at last year's date and keep an eye on https://www.collegekickstart.com/blog/item/class-of-2030-early-decision-and-early-action-notification-dates

OP here. This is amazing- thanks! Found my daughter's first choice and looks like they released 7 days early.
