| Forgive me if this isn't an appropriate post for this forum, but it's safe to say I'm a little desperate -- can anyone recommend a good marriage counselor? |

Do not go.
Go solo first . Get friends or a hobby first You basically have to change a lot first You probably know what areas to focus on already. |
I actually don't. |

Well Marriage Center. There are several counselors, we saw Mary. It was helpful.
You have to be willing to change, but obviously you don't have to change before seeing a counselor. Helping you figure out a direction is what the counselor is for. |
You don’t know what to work on?! Then buy a book on listening. You are probably not taking it in for some reason. |

I am not being rude. I have read/skimmed a couple amazing books on listening Yeah dont ask the titles I also learned a lot on line about self behavior change. It was very useful Tips like first thoughts ..: then language (you have to read to know what this is about it sort of breaks it all down for you. i am pro doing work first |

“self-centered behavior can be changed through a variety of methods, including therapy, practicing empathy and mindfulness, and addressing underlying cognitive biases like the fundamental attribution error and self-serving bias. Individuals can challenge their thinking, set realistic goals, and reframe situations by considering other perspectives. “
— AI. I would start with listening. That is really hard one to master !! Listening to understand (and interpret), etc etc. |

Listening is definitely not the issue.
I'm not looking for advice from people who don't know the situation. I'm looking for a recommendation. |
