is Michigan OOS impossible in RD.

My son's bestie now wants to apply to Mich. Is this a long shot during RD round? Public school w no guidance and the HS is def not a feeder, but very good EC and a 1540 SAT. GPA is good but again, just a random hs where everyone has a good GPA

He needs to look at the data from HIS school. None of us can tell you.

This is the first year Michigan has had ED, so nobody knows what RD will look like, other than probably more difficult than in the past.

Sounds like a wait-list at best especially with ED this year

no shot if business or engineering. but SAT like that is appealing to Michigan, even in RD. this will be a weird year though

Major is important at Michigan. Pick wisely. Esp for RD.

If you are top 3 in class rank, it seems to be a much better predictor of success in our school

A friend of ours tried for Ivy’s ED/EA and got shutout. Ended up doing RD to Michigan and got accepted and is a current freshman there.

My kid got into Michigan RD from a no-name (& pretty weak) OOS high school last year. The bigger problem with Michigan OOS is paying for it -- far too expensive even to consider it in the end. If we'd known the price tag, kid wouldn't have applied.

My son got into UMich RD OOS last year for engineering after being deferred in EA. 1510, 4.0UW which didn’t change in the fall of senior year, lots of AP and DE classes.

He didn’t enroll, but it was in his top 2. I’m not sure how much the deferral mattered vs if he had just applied RD.

My kid applied RD last year to LSA, 4.0/1560, waitlisted/denied.

….and this is why Michigan started using ED. Don’t be surprised if he’s deferred in the RD round.

What did you expect from a top 20 school and being from OOS?

I'm surprised when people get surprised by the price tags of schools. That was known about every school where DC applied, from the less expensive in state options to high cost schools like USC and Miami. We didn't know the merit that places like Miami would offer, but we knew the initial cost of every school before DC pressed submit.

Why would you apply if you can’t pay for it? I don’t understand letting your kid apply without running the NPC.
