Yale REA Alumni Interview

Anonymous
My DS just got an alumni interview request from Yale. Applied REA from DMV Public. Any other DMV applicants get one? Feels very early as he submitted his application 1 week ago. Should we read into the timing or is it just that he was read first?

Any tips/insights on the interview would be appreciated as well. TIA!

It means absolutely nothing. Others have gotten the same. Everyone gets one.

Yale prescreens heavily; only offers 9,000 interviews from 50,000-ish applicants. Not everyone gets an REA interview.

For Yale it is somewhat meaningful; not so for the other Ivy. But don't let DS read too much into it ... just breathe and be himself

Dramatically increases likelihood of admission!! Great news!!

one week is enough. Did you ever read the news that on average AO spent 4-10 minutes on every application?

A huge % of REA interviewees are still denied. And we don’t really have a say. But definitely take it seriously. It wouldn’t help to have a bad review from us (at least I’d like to think!)

-Yale alumni interviewer (and heard similar from undergrad friends who now do the interviews as alums)

😄 Just like buying 2 Powerball lotteries dramatically double the likelihood of winning!

and my own kid was accepted without an interview two years ago. so no interview doesn't mean you're already cut.

"Because of limited interviewing capacity, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions prioritizes interviews for students for whom the Admissions Committee needs more information. Students who do not receive an interview invitation will not be disadvantaged, but applicants are encouraged to connect with a Yale alumni interviewer or student interviewer if invited."

What will absolutely devastate Yale is stupid trump & co. attacking legacy admissions. Does trump want to make the whole country fail?

Looking for tips as well.

If given an interview this early, what’s the likelihood of admission? Small undersubscribed interdisciplinary major.

I dislike Trump and what he’s doing to higher education but how does preventing legacy applicants from getting a boost cause education to fail? It’s giving an advantage or disadvantage to someone for something they have nothing to do with.
