Suggestions for college-level reading and writing class?

My kid could definitely use some (hate to say it) remedial reading and writing work before starting college--anyone have suggestions for a summer program? Near DMV would be nice but could be anywhere, I guess. I don't think online will work, I think a residential program would be better. I just don't think this kid is ready to write multiple 5-page papers in a semester or do lots of reading each week and turn things around quickly.

I think freshman comp and intro level classes teach this—more now than in the old days.

Pomona has a mandatory reading and writing class for all freshman now. I think it’s a great way to prepare kids for college level learning.

I'd probably just see if there's a tutor you could hire. Really, a lot is just practice

I don’t know but my college freshman took both the required freshman seminar/writing class and an elective 2 credit writing class first semester. The latter introduced him to the writing center, which he has continued to utilize. Highly recommend.
