There is a post in the Tweens/Teens forum about good holiday gifts for girls. I'm wondering if anyone has good ideas for gifts for college-age girls, and especially first-year girls in dorms. This student is at JMU, so anything specific to there is particularly welcome. All I've come up with so far on that front is a 7 Brew gift card, because she apparently goes there a lot. I know she basically wants money, but I'd like to wrap up a few things at least, or have some good stocking stuffers.
(Also have a non-dorm dwelling boy in college (cold northeast), so if anyone has any ideas there, they're also welcome.) |
You could give a JMU-themed gift basket with a sweatshirt and other smaller items from the school. Same idea for the boy at the other school.
I'm doing a holiday themed care package for finals week. For actual Christmas, I'm giving her a trip which will happen over the summer and a kindle. Typical stocking stuffers for us are things like fuzzy socks, chapstick, food gift cards, chocolate, jewelry (inexpensive type).
I like the 711 idea and would also consider a gift card to a number of restaurants around JMU. Is there anything she is missing for college or dorm life- an umbrella/rain coat, a can opener or some kitchen tool? Does she have a car - a car organizer, a thing to hold your phone for maps. Is she content with her bedding/laundry supplies? Fun school supplies?
We got a custom Lego mosaic of our kid’s college’s logo. There are several websites where you can buy them, I think we used Memobrick. He’s an engineering major and loves Legos, it’s one of his favorite dorm decor items.
I underestimated how much my son would wear his college sweatshirt/t-shirts. Seriously, that’s all the kids seem to wear- college merch and jeans. College sweatshirts, beanie, socks, hat, etc. Anything from the college bookshop will be great.

DS wants his favorite NFL player jersey. I guess that's a thing on campus on game days.
He will get Apple tags for his car keys and car. Who knew it would be a constant stress where he parked and where his keys are. He has his first apartment so wants a Keurig and K-cups. |
Does the northeast kid have good winter boots, coat, hat, gloves? We got our DC a good coat for his birthday in October, but looking at boots and hat for Christmas.
Bean Boots - specifically the Gumshoe kind - for those in cold or wet climates. Tall enough for modest snow or water, not so hard to get on/off as the talker kind.
Silly autocorrect: taller not talker.
