IUD for teen daugther

Anonymous
My DD will be 18 in 3 weeks and off to college next year. She had to get on the pill last year while she was taking Accutane. I thought it was a convenient way to do that before going off to college. She has a boyfriend but he is a freshman in college and they have only been ab le to see each other once a month since he left. She recently told my husband and me that she is very pro-life no matter the circumstances. We were speaking generally, not about her personally.

She's pretty and social. I feeel as though I should have her get an IUD immediately before she turns 18 and before she goes to college. Is this drastic?

Is this a troll post? Because people who are strictly pro-life are generally also anti-IUD… it prevents an embryo from implanting in the uterus.

No. It's not a troll post. This is my teen daughter's view. I am more moderate.

Why do you think you can "have her get" an IUD without any agency on her part? She's obviously a thoughtful girl, who has formed her own opinions.

I’d consider the nexplanon as well. Good luck sounds like being a grandma is in the cards.

Getting an IUD before having children can be a very painful experience, if your daughter decides it’s a good option make sure she is offered some sort of pain aid and you WILL have to lobby for it as most offices dismiss female pain. My Dd about passed out it was so bad, yes experiences vary, in the end she couldn’t adjust to the feel of it, more a mental off feeling than a physical one and it was removed. She wasn’t able to do the pill, hormone sensitive, we should have known! Good luck.

It’s impossible to really prove this but the evidence strongly supports the conclusion that copper IUDs prevent fertilization.

She generally follows my advice so I will discuss it with her but I don't anticipate her objecting.

Mirena IUD made my hair fall out. Get all the side effects info first.

If she is pro life and sleeps around that's on her.

Of course you should.

It takes one time to get pregnant just one time and her life is gone. All her goals and dreams.

This should not be even a question.

As for the pro life shit you raised a dummy. What do you not understand about the anti vax movement and what Republicans are doing to laws women are dying and more will die.

Don't be an idiot. Be a dam good parent and get her on that IUD immediately.

Not a "thoughtful girl"

She is too immature and stupid to get pregnant at this juncture. No 18 year old should be getting pregnant now. How the hell will she support a child? Who brings a kid into the anti vax climate? Going off to college and getting pregnant right now could be a death sentence.

You don't *have* to do anything for an adult. She is an adult (minus 3 weeks). Adults decide for themselves what medical devices they put in their bodies, not their parents. *She* decides what birth control to use, not you. The absolute gall...

I got my first IUD pre-kids. It hurt bad, but only for a short time and was very worth it. I will do anything to make sure my girls get an IUD once they are teens and starting to date. I would offer to celebrate after with a massive shopping spree or something. Birth control safeguards a young woman’s future.

Yep, I had sex one time and got pregnant. I had not had sex in almost 8 years. And we used a condom. I am pro-life so I kept my baby. But also got an IUD inserted and have had one ever since. Not promiscuous at all. Things happen. I wish my mother would’ve discussed birth control options with me and been proactive in keeping me safe because condoms do fail. Do what’s right for your girl and make sure she is safe. It only takes one time.
