| I've been furloughed since October 1st and have finally started to get unemployment. However, now I've been recalled to work on excepted matters tomorrow. Does this mean I can't certify unemployment in DC for the whole week (and miss out on the $444)? (I will be working one day, but won't be paid until the shutdown ends.) |
Are you called for only 1 day or longer? Will you get paid for working? If one day I’d apply. |
I will be back working in the office as "excepted" instead of home not working on "furlough" for one day. They won't pay me until the government reopens. |
|
I'm in a similar boat and plan to call the unemployment office and ask. The online system is not really accurate to feds anyway.
Whoever finds out, please post here! |
Will do! My spouse has been excepted the whole shutdown so can't get unemployment at all; this is just another layer of insanity. |
| What do you pay back the unemployment once you get your backpay? Or you double collect? |
We have to repay the unemployment insurance when we get backpay, but for now, any interest-free cash helps! |
| dollars to donuts your agency will code your time as furloughed not working anyway... |
| If recalled you are still on furlough. But no one gets paid so I don’t think exceotedcstarys changes anything? |
| You're still not getting paid, so if you were eligible for unemployment before, you still are |
Have you filed for UI? You have to check in weekly and say whether you "worked" and, separately, whether you are still "furloughed." There's nothing on the weekly form about whether you got paid. I believe that in DC you are eligible even if working excepted, but that is not true in all states. And in DC, I don't know how to fill out the form for a week in which I was excepted 1 day. |
Are you that literal? If you work without pay, you can decide if you are a volunteer or a slave |
"Are you that literal?" being asked in connection with a public benefit where you can be prosecuted for fraud? Yeah, I am. |
My spouse is excepted (working without pay) and can't file for unemployment because they are not furloughed (no furlough letter). This is why MD established a separate loan program for MD residents who are excepted. |

Don't seek permission; ask for forgiveness later. Worst case scenario is that you pay back a pro-rata day.
I wouldn't change anything. |
