Well it's official. I'm lactose-intolerant now. Who's with me!

I just had a couple of bowls of cereal and milk for lunch. Bad choice to tempt fate. Now I'm going to be tethered to the house on this beautiful afternoon.

It wasn't always like this, no it wasn't.

I have been for a few years. Mine's a pretty mild case - I can eat cheese and dairy (I drink Lactaid milk) - I just don't eat pizza or ice cream if I have to be out and about afterwards. I feel bad, though - I think I passed it on to my daughter. she's been having loose stools after drinking regular milk, though she's fine with lactaid milk. poor kid!

start eating yogurt and taking probiotics. I used to be lactose intolerant, yet LOVED dairy. I ran across an issue of Health magazine about 12 years ago and it recommended starting with small yogurt servings to re-establish the ability to digest lactose. It has worked pretty well for me. I can now enjoy milk, cheese, ice cream, etc, without fear of stinking up the house or my office.

For yogurt, go as natural and unflavored as you can. Added sugars will not help your cause. I generally eat nonfat Greek yogurt (check the label for added starches and such; I like Fage and Vaskos), with either fresh berries, granola & dried berries, or a little honey.
