AI and accounting major

DS is accounting sophomore at Penn state. Will AI affect his ability to get a job when he graduates?

AI will not completely take over accounting.

My DD is a Sophomore accounting major at Virginia Tech. She already has a public accounting internship lined up for the summer and is constantly being emailed by recruiters. AI may assist, but I believe human eyes will always be required to double check work and build relationships with clients.

Like all fields…the kids who know how AI is used in their field and know how to best use it will be in high demand.

I know law has its own AI (called Harvey) and imagine accounting probably has something similar.

Humans still need to be able to understand and interpret an income statement and balance sheet.

As someone who manages a team of accountants at an S&P 500 company,
I believe that in the short term there will be smaller corporate teams doing more analytical work and less manual tasks like posting journal entries.

Many kids today are double majoring in accounting and information systems. The young accountants with an IT background or second degree are getting the best pay right now. And the Big 4 is making a massive investment in AI and needs that skill set.
