Kwame's empty slot

Kwame Brown is almost certain to leave his at-large Council seat on Jan 2. The Democratic committee appoints a temporary successor until the special election (in March or May, depending on whether a new amendment applies). Have any of you heard who is in the running? Is it likely to be someone who will be running in the election or someone not interested in the longer term? Speaking of the longer term, any gossip about likely candidates for the special election?
