Men's Fashion: quality staples that feel really nice to wear

Anonymous
I want to get my husband a couple clothing items for Christmas this year that are practical and comfortable and also look nice.

A few years ago I got him a couple base layer merino shirts from Smartwool and he loves them and wears them all the time, so in that vein. These were great because they are casual but not sloppy. He rarely dresses up but he still wants his clothes to look pulled together and purposeful. Also these have held up really well with no holes after several years of heavy rotation wearing, so I want something similar.

He overheats easily so nothing too heavy/warm. The merino was great because it breathes.

Can be pants, shoes, tops, sweaters, outerwear. Just anything you've bought that is good quality and versatile. Bonus if it's very travel friendly as we travel a lot.

I started dressing better a few years ago.

The merino wool sweaters are a good start. I'd also look for slacks that fit well and comfortably. I have procured a few blazers that I got tailored. Pocket squares go a long way to jazzing up that look, too.

I also invested in some watches (Tissot, Hamilton), some decent shoes (nothing too crazy -- Allen Edmond or Thursday boots, that sort of thing). And, of all things, hats. Like proper felt fedoras. They're making a bit of a comeback. And they can make a fella look sharp.

Thin leather jacket -- black and brown. Look for them with lapels rather than racer or moto style.

When we go out now, we both make an effort. It's a little thing but it matters. Boosts confidence, projects class.

DCUM will scoff but Brooks Brothers has very nice basics. I tend to buy during their sales. The boxers last literally years and years. Long sleeve t shirts are high quality and soft, DH loves them. Pajamas too.
