Should DC submit quarter grades to EA/ED schools

Anonymous
DC applied ED/EA to several schools before quarter grades were available.

He has no Bs in his transcript but a smattering of B+ with the rest As with an upward trend - 2 B+ in 10th, 1 in 11th and straight As in first quarter of 12th grade (mix of 5 AP and IB).

1st question - is B+ pretty much seen as the same as a B.

2nd - is it worthwhile proactively submitting his quarter grades to the schools he already applied to, to show continued upward trend and that he has not taken his foot off the gas his senior year? And, if so, would he do that through applicant portal?

Yes, submit. The school my DC ED'd to requires it. I'm a little nervous as he has a B+ in AP Lit and potentially AP Calc too, but the other grades are good and the rigor is there.

If anything, the AOs are so busy that it's very likely they've decided before seeing first quarter grades anyway.

How so? ED decision comes out in December. First quarter grades are out way earlier than that, right after November 1 deadline. Decisions are already made now?

Almost all ED schools require the grades. They will often contact the high school directly.

EA schools generally do not ask for them or want them.

If school is on a semester transcript, why send quarter? Just asking before someone berates poster

Do REA/SCEA schools want them? I have been studying the web but can’t find guidance.

So if they didn't reach out to the student, they don't have to submit?

My DC is lucky to have won a coach’s support, the coach asked for Q1 grades. It says on FCPS website Q1 grades will be available Nov 10.

They have to submit them if the schools want them. Most ED schools do. It will be either asked of the school counselor or it will show up in the portal. There's no way around this if you want to be a competitive candidate.

My DC submitted them. They were optional. But I felt their strong 1st quarter grades helped offset early B’s in 9/10th.

Same here but coach said grades still need to be good 1st quarter and has had some admissions not go through where this is not the case. Obv. will vary by school.

Right, but semester grades won’t be available until the EA/ED decisions go out. So it only helps students who are deferred or for those students who have been accepted and they want to make sure the student is continuing to eke up with their grades.

I want DC to submit his first quarter grades to help with the EA/ED decisions but wasn’t sure if the schools will even accept and consider them past the EA/ED deadline.
