I have the biggest craving for bulgogi. What are the best restaurants for bulgogi in the area?
Am in Bethesda, so a plus if it's near here, but am willing to travel for a great meal! |
| Honey Pig in Annandale VA! Plus they have good prices. I can't get enough of it now that it's smoke-free! |
|
you don't have to go all the way to annandale.
my #1 option personally would be to buy pre-marinated bulgogi at a korean grocery store in montgomery county like hmart (wheaton) or korean korner (rockville/twinbrook). grill it at home, and it's good, you get more for your money. you could also try woomi garden in wheaton where they'll grill it right in front of you or vit goel (lighthouse) soondooboo in twinbrook, which specializes in the spicy soft tofu dish but has decent bulgogi. for the most "upscale" korean food experience in the area, i'd recommend woo lae oak. and if you could make your way into dc on a weekday around lunch time, the bulgogi food trucks are good and cheap too. |
Thank you both for the recs!
Yum...now why didn't this ever occur to me?! We just got a new grill this summer, so I am going to head to hmart. Perfect weather for a family bbq night, thank you!! |
| How about the takorean truck crusing the streets of DC? |
| takorean doesn't do bulgogi. even if their menu says bulgogi taco... it's not authentic by any means. |
| Annandale! |
| OP, if you want to come into DC, Mandu at 17th & T is really good and has outdoor seating. More lounge-y than mom & pop vibe. Would be good for date night. |

Woomi in Wheaton is awesome...
We are true foodies so take my advice! |
| The yellow food truck on 14th and L. The best. |
| Another Woomi fan. |

Woo Lae Oak would be a good choice - if it was 1999.
And Mandu has never been good. The first time I went there, my bulgogi came out on a sizzle platter. Like fajitas, for cryin' out loud. It's about as authentic as Taco Bell is. To be fair, that was about 5 years ago, so they may have fired the "chef" and everyone else associated with the original abomination, and have decent food now. I'm in the city, and if I want good sit-down Korean I go to Annandale (although I don't know anything about the places recommended in Wheaton.) There's a little dive in Mt. Pleasant that does takeout only that's pretty good in a pinch. |

where is woomi?

OP here, so glad for all the feedback. I picked up some marinated ribeye at hmart yesterday and we enjoyed a delicious dinner last night--was even a hit with the 5 yr old!
Next stop: Woomi Garden. To the PP, I looked it up and it's at: 2423 Hickerson Dr Wheaton, MD 20902 |
actuallly a lot of authentic korean restaurants serve bulgogi on a sizzling platter as well. |
