Renting a car on Priceline. Should I avoid the less expensive TURO option?

Anonymous
Should I just stick with the big car rental names who have been in the business for decades?

Why not just rent from Turo? We started using Turo and haven't looked back. We are a ski family who needs an AWD car for our trips. With Turo you know exactly which car you are getting.

Search for Turo reviews. In some locations like Hawaii the reputation is poor.

We are same here and have used Turo with (mostly) success for ski trips when we need a specific vehicle. You know exactly what you are getting. The downsides are that pickup is not always as convenient. I didn't check the pickup point once and had to uber to someone's house to get the vehicle. You often can't just arrive at the airport and visit a counter. Also, if the Turo person cancels for whatever reason, you are out of luck. We have kept backup reservations through Costco travel that we cancelled in advance on rental cars if we were worried.

I've had great luck with Turo. It's the same argument of airbnb vs a hotel though. If you are a hotel only family, you probably want to stick to traditional rentals.

We've had mostly good luck with Turo at places there are not usually nearby car rental agencies. A couple times it's been a little annoying logistically, with the person changing the time or too many back and forth emails. But then there was another time we were coming in late on a train with a bunch of luggage and the Turo was supposed to be about a mile away and when we contacted the owner in advance they said "no problem, I'll leave it at the train station for you."

I'd I were wealthy and flying into a place with a rental car station I'd probably just do that for less friction. But for train connections it's a wonderful option.

There is zero chance I would ever use Turo. OMG, you all are nuts. Stick with regular car agencies.

Same, BUT it's because I'm on a travel fb page and there are so many bad experiences I read about it. The big names are bad enough, I don't want more risk!
