Sad what’s happened with this college.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/edwardconroy/2025/10/29/floridas-new-college-eager-to-sign-trumps-compact-with-higher-ed/ And the conservative takeover isn’t going well in terms of rankings and other factors. Dropped from 76 to 135 in USNWR, with decreased retention and graduation rates. It seems to be in a free fall with many predicting New College’s closure in a few years (to include the current Board President DeSantis installed). https://www.insidehighered.com/news/governance/state-oversight/2025/10/01/spending-soars-rankings-fall-new-college-florida |
| It once was the UCSC of the east |

NP:
It is a vaguely written document by a vengeful, vindictive, and one sided party. It requires the Anonymous polling of students and employees on compact compliance and the publishing of the results. This can obviously result in consequences against the schools by the Justice Department. If a school is found to violate the compact there could be significant fiscal consequences ie universities would “lose access to the benefits of this agreement” for a year. Subsequent violations would lead to a two-year punishment. And the federal government could claw back “all monies advanced by the U.S. government during the year of any violation.” Private donations would also be required to be returned, upon request. So anonymous surveys could result in this. An interpretation that a professor having debates about morality or ethics or religion or law could be interpreted to cause a violation. (This is bc It requires the Shutting down departments that “punish, belittle” or “spark violence against conservative ideas.”) It prohibits a school from any Definition and interpretation of “male,” “female,” “woman” and “man” to include anything other than reproductive function and biological processes. Think about this for a second: would you want your LGBTQ+ kid to attend UVA based on an app that disclosed the kid’s self identified gender and then the school signed the compact? This is forcing this viewpoint on education institutions and its student body. Schools that have clubs, activities, celebrations, events, etc for this community will shut them all down. What do you think will happen to those students or you don’t GAF? It Requires applicants to take standardized tests - does the school not have autonomy on this issue? It requires school to Clamp down on grade inflation. How is this overseen and then enforced? Have YOU read this, PP? |

Part 2:
It’s an abuse of the sep of powers. Congress (not the executive branch) puts the conditions on federal funds. It requires schools to give up their independence and academic freedom. It tramps down on free inquiry and ties research benefits to the compliance. It overreaches the government’s control. It can be read to say unless you agree to this: —you’re not going to be able to get access to student aid —you’re not going to be able to get access to federal research contracts —you’re not going to be able to get student visas —you’re no longer going to have 501(c)(3) status |
It’s like you think saying that is a flex. How embarrassing for you. |
| One of the most brilliant people I attended high school with (in NoVa) attended The New College. It seemed like a very unique place. The takeover and destruction of this public institution is tragic. |
Everything MAGA touches turns to shit |
|
| It's going to be replaced by "Old College" so xconservatives" can tolerate it. |
It’s a terrible place Have to be dumb to send a student there |
| Woo hoo Florida land of disease |
| It constrains employees and professors speech even when off the clock. |
| Don’t worry, there will still be hundreds of colleges at which your kid can major in Bullhornology. |
