Dc applying for College internship at my good friends company

Would you expect her to put in a good word? Would you if the situation reversed?

Fwiw dc got an interview entirely on his own by submitting through their portal. Did the interview and is now apparently in the final round. So he’s not an outlier at all.

Thoughts?

What do you mean by expect? Does she know what he’s doing

I would never ask or expect, but I would hope.

I wouldn’t “expect” anything. How do you know that she has the ability to influence the decision?

I would send a text to let her know that Jimbo has been invited back for final interviews and ask if she has any tips.

Jeesh relax about semantics. But I’m curious if the situation were reversed, what would you do?

I would help of course!

I would help if i knew the kid well enough to think they'd be a good intern. I was helped in the same way once when I was in college.

If she's a good friend, does that mean your son also knows her pretty well? If so, I'd suggest that he reach out directly to your friend to let her know status and ask any tips. If your son doesn't know her, I'd suggest you reach out to her and ask if it would be ok for your son to reach out to her for tips.

I Ould mention to her that he's applying. My DH gets this sort of thing a lot. He's not allowed to put his finger on the scale, but he does offer to speak to the applicant to give them advice and answer questions.

I personally always help.

I wouldn’t lie - oh X is the best XYZ ever, I can personally attest for his work!!’ But I would offer to chat with them to give tips and background intel, and I would mention to the hiring manager that I know Larlo from family friends and ‘he’s a good kid, hardworking etc’. (Assuming that was not inaccurate and I wasn’t hiding his string of juvenile arrests)

I would help
And I would have already pinged her about it.
Her ability to help depends on her rank/position though. So know that

I would put in a good word, but usually that kind of thing is more helpful at the beginning of the process -- making sure he gets an interview and a close look -- than at the end of the process, when the hiring manager has enough information to draw their own conclusion.
