Been having a hankering for corn or blueberry muffin split & put on the griddle.

Not the same when I do it myself.

Won’t be in NY/NJ/CT anytime soon.

Carnegie Diner in Vienna has a "toasted with butter" muffin on its menu, but they didn't have them the last time I was there, so I'd definitely call ahead.

I get the hankering.
My mom still does this for me. Dried up cornbread are revitalized.
You can do it at home. Use a lot of butter. A lot. And just brown in a frying pan. I even give you permission to buy the muffins first and let them dry out a bit.

True.
The taste difference is in my head - the overall diner experience - everything tastes different not at home.
