Why is this place an institution? The food is so unbelievably bland.

It caters to Republicans

Not true. It's mixed . People go there to be social and see others.

I agree it sn't great. And it's also expensive af. Like, $35 entrees. And portions are tiny because the average age in there is 73.

But I still like it for some reason. Probably nostalgia.

Be careful when they are adding up the check at the register. I caught them making a mistake in their favor several times. Never an error in my favor.

Food and ambience are both awful. Never understood the appeal of this disgusting dive.

This is so funny to me. I am 37, don’t live locally and it’s usually my first stop after I fly into DCA. Dem too. Literally nothing about it has changed since my childhood and I love it so much. Now I bring my daughter with me and she loves it too!

PP again. I remember raising money in high school for a fundraiser and I went in there to ask for a donation. The owner took it straight out of the cash register and didn’t even ask for a tax receipt or anything. It was a super sweet gesture and that’s always sat well with me.

There are at least ten restaurants within minutes of McLean Family Restaurant plus the Madison Deli where you can get a bulgoki and grilled cheese sandwich. You seem more the Matchbox or Chipotle type. Why not go there and leave McLean Family to those who can afford it.

Are you sure you aren't talking about Vienna Inn? That is one overrated, disgusting dive.

I have not been able to eat there ever since I realized where the bathrooms are.

Not a dive. Very basic and comforting.

That called nostalgia... its not like this is some little known restaurant for foodies. The place reeks and is bland, full of old people.

It's fine. An extensive menu, relatively affordable, a change from the chains and the pricier, more chic, options.

It's basically a diner with more limited hours and, yes, the clientele is old, but if you stick to standard items (breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, gyros, and a few of the entrees) it's perfectly fine and it's not that expensive. And the waiters and waitresses treat you nicely, especially if you're a repeat customer.

The carpet smells terribly. I will never go back.
